Why do we appreciate teachers?

This week schools across our country celebrated the special people that spend countless hours caring, educating, helping, and loving our children.   We honored our teachers this week at Bishop Marshall with a breakfast buffet each morning, lunch on Wednesday that they did not have to serve or help out with, and special prizes picked out specifically for them at assembly on Friday morning all donated by our wonderful parent volunteers.  Our 8th grade students spent some time this week thinking about the teachers they have had throughout their time at All Saints Catholic Academy and answered the following questions:

Why do we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week?

Why do you appreciate your teachers?

Think back to your former teachers. What makes you appreciate them?

Why do you appreciate going to school at All Saints Catholic Academy?

Here are some of their thoughtful and kind comments about their special teachers:

I appreciate my teachers because I would not be where I am today in my education skills. I appreciate Mr. Close because he got me interested in science with his enthusiastic teaching. I appreciate Mrs. Shinners because she helps me understand history in the easiest way. I appreciate Madame Wicks because I am very fortunate that she is such a good French teacher, and helped me build on what I already know to expand my French vocabulary. Before I was in 3rd grade I used to not like going to school, because I was kind of the new kid. Then when I was in Mrs. Curran’s class I would wake up and be excited to have a fun day in her class. I appreciate All Saints Catholic Academy because I would not be the person I am today if I went to another school.

We celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week because we want our teachers to know how much we appreciate what they do for us. They do so much for us and now we need to show them that we have noticed. I appreciate my teachers because they are encouraging and can always help me on my work. They are kind and helpful and they guide me to do the right things and make the right choices. I appreciate going to All Saints Catholic Academy because it is a comfortable environment to learn in.

In Pre-K, Mrs. Cowan loved candy apples and would share them with me. Mrs. Piper always had a giant rosary hanging in her room to pray to. Mrs. S had a fun game to play all year: when we were good she would move a star across a string. When it reached the end, she would let us do something fun. Mrs. Nordenson taught me how to pray in Mass by making a book for me to take to Mass. Mrs. Curran would use a smartboard to do math. Mrs. Rapoport did science projects on thermal energy by using hot chocolate that we could drink after. Mrs. Shinners taught us about hermits by having us camp outside in the snow. Madame Wicks teaches us French by letting us watch fun Caillou videos that involve our vocabulary. Mr. Close shows us human body digestive tracts by using oatmeal and plastic bags.                                                                             -Maddy

We celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week because teachers do so much for us. They also teach us a lot of important things. I appreciate them because of how nice and good at teaching they are. Mrs. Piper is very patient with everyone. It is very fun doing ABC Countdown with Mrs. Curran. I appreciate All Saints Catholic Academy because everyone is so nice. It is a good place to grow.                                                                                                                                                                                                              -Lucy

I appreciate my teachers because they teach me important things and help me when I don’t understand things. I appreciate all the hard work my former teachers have done for me and others. I appreciate Mrs. Shinners for making me feel so welcome when I first came to All Saints Catholic Academy. I also appreciate Madame for being a great 7th grade homeroom teacher. I appreciate Mr. Close for helping me be the best I can during my 8th grade year. I appreciate going to All Saints Catholic Academy because everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I appreciate all the teachers here that teach me great things.                                                                                                                      -Adele

I appreciate my teachers because they help me learn so I can get to higher levels of education and prepare myself for high school. We celebrate it to pay respects to the teachers that take time out of their day to do their job and teach us. Mrs. Shinners helps me understand many things I have trouble with. She helps me with my Wordly Wise when I need help. She is also teaching me about WWII.

We celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week to show how much we care and how much we respect our teachers. I appreciate my teachers because of all of the work they put in to give me a good education. Also, they help keep a good environment for learning. I appreciate going to All Saints Catholic Academy because of the community, the great education, and the friendly smiles every time I walk through the front entrance from Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Nordenson that really make my day. Even when it’s raining, Mrs. Shinners is happy to bring us outside. Mr. Carlson shows us the bright side when we make a small mistake on our tests and lets us fix them to get a better grade. This is why I get up in the morning and am EXCITED to go to school.

I think we celebrate Teachers Appreciation Week because teachers are very important people. Without them we would be very uneducated. They are probably the most knowledgeable people in the world. I appreciate my teachers because they taught me how to communicate with people and how to read. I appreciate Madame because she taught me how to speak to other people and learn about their culture. Madame is the kindest teacher in the school and she is very nice to talk to. I also love Mrs. Shinners because she is very funny and whatever she teaches is fun. I appreciate All Saints Catholic Academy because teachers educate me to be a better person.

Teachers help us strive to be the best versions of ourselves and to bring out the best in us like Mrs. Piper who would not let us give up until we learned. They help us to do our best work and Mrs. S. gave us smarties to motivate us to learn. I appreciate going to school at All Saints Catholic Academy because teachers do everything they can to bring out the best in us and we need to respect them by celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week.      -Gabe
