Imagine getting into your car and driving 6 hours. Ok, that’s the worst part. As soon as you arrive in Sorrento something happens. You can forget your job, your worries, the hot weather, and your to-do list. Take a big breath in and exhale. A week in Sorrento is a break from the world. You will see things in your children that you might have missed, and have time to think a little for yourself also. Sleep late and make some blueberry pancakes. Go for a hike on the Bubbles in Acadia National Park and then have tea at the Jordan Pond House. Come back and enjoy the best lobster roll in the world at Chases’ in Winter Harbor. Then watch the sunset while driving the loop road around Schoodic Point, the best (unknown) part of Acadia. Finally, get back to Seaglass, put your kids to bed, and take a walk around the block, you may even see a few shooting stars. Go to bed, wake up, and repeat!
ABOUT THE AREA:
Sorrento is not your typical touristy Maine harbor. The setting is a private and very peaceful part of Maine – you may have never been to a place like it before. There are restaurants in almost all directions within a drive (checkout Chases in Winter Harbor and many in Bar Harbor) and the grocery store is in Ellsworth (just 25 minutes away), where you will do pick up your home-cooking ingredients. Perhaps most important, you can walk to the lobster pound and buy some lobsters (usually clams too) right off the boats.

Frenchman’s bay is within sight of the house and Acadia National Park can be seen in the distance across the Bay. There is a town dock and a lot of beachfront for getting to the water. There are many places to walk the beach in search of sea glass or that perfect rock. You can also pick muscles or digging for clams.
ABOUT THE HOME:
Seaglass is a gorgeous 1888 cottage that will comfortably sleep up to 18 people, so two or three families can take it over and have a blast! There are two living rooms looking towards the big open stairwell and the kitchen has everything you will need. The house is well equipped with puzzles, games, and kids books but bring your favorites if you like! There is intentionally no Internet or television in the house, but wireless is available in the town library which his next door. Fun is a must and natural effect of staying at Seaglass, however the owners do have personal effects in the home and know everyone in town, so consideration of neighbors is greatly appreciated. A cleaning fee of $200 is also required to get the place back in shape after the week.

On the second floor, bedroom #1 has a double bed, there is a twin in bedroom #2, a double bed in bedroom #3, two twins in bedroom #4, and #5 has one twin. The sheets for each bed are in each room and if we know how many people are coming in advance, they can be made up to fit the family’s needs. On the third floor, bedroom #6 has a double, bedroom #7 has a double, bedroom #8 has a double and twin, and bedroom #9 (a nursery) has a bunk bed and a crib as well as a double mattress on the floor.
Head outside where you’ll find a big yard as well as a swing set. The yard is not fenced in but there is very little car traffic. From here you can see, smell, and taste the ocean. One rowboat and 2 kayaks are available for guests to use and there are 6 adult life jackets available. Also available for guests to use are two adult bikes and a tandem. Kids will need to bring their own lifejackets, bikes, helmets.
ACTIVITIES:
Nearby, there are tennis courts, walking/hiking/biking paths, a golf course, and much more – to use them all a fee of $450 covers everyone in the house! That includes tennis lessons for adults or kids, sailing lessons for kids and races for adults, golf lessons (another fee for golf play), pool, an all-day activity for kids on Mondays, and evening activities on Tuesday and Thursdays for kids (like capture the flag, scavenger hunts around town, soccer…). The town even has a great one of a kind salt water pool!

People would want to take the July week if they want to take advantage of these options. Many friends choose to go up and drive over to Acadia or explore the coast without taking advantage of the summer community activities, and that is great too.
LOCATION:
The drive time from Morrisville is around 6 scenic hours. The home is just 1 block from Frenchman’s Bay, and 40 minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.
