Learning has had a major competitor this year in the greater Boston area and a student tied to the epidemic has been suspended by officials believing him to be “the [kid] behind the curtain”. So far this year, schools in Boston’s metro regions have had 7 cancellations in the past 11 instructional days. This time busy sports schedules, social media, and texting are not to blame for the hindered academics; but rather, many inches of snow – nearly 72-inches in the past few weeks.
Having thought it to be merely a run of bad wintery luck, school officials were surprised when a note found in the bathroom of a school in the Needham area tipped them off to another possible cause, which is now becoming known as the “snow dance kid” as the story continues to develop. Superintendents of Boston schools had a meeting last week to which the student, his mother, and administrative officials of his school attended.
What many are labeling as “superstitious” is turning out to be an actual case of effective snow dances taught by Neb Neslo, the lead dance coach at a private dance studio in Needham. At this meeting, the student, who is a minor and not being named, openly admitted to accepting bribes in exchange for performing snow dances aimed at closing Boston area schools.
The student’s dance coach declined to comment.
“You wouldn’t believe the underground market for something like this,” the student commented, “I can literally eat like a king at school lunch for the rest of the year because of this. Even if I wanted someone to tie my shoelaces for me every time they came undone, I could find a kid willing to do it for me now. I think school administrators should take into consideration that us kids all think we need more downtime and are willing to do things like this to make it happen.”
The parents of the Snow Dance Kid, who asked to remain anonymous, commented, “Like any parents trying to do the best for their kids, we thought we were channeling our child’s talents and helping him develop his strengths through dancing. He was signing up for extra classes and we didn’t know why.” School officials are clearly not taking the student’s snow dances lightly given the impediment it has been. However the student’s parents stated, “We are ashamed of what he has done, but we still love him for who he is and we will be continue to support him as he begins counseling.”
The Snow Dance Kid has been temporarily suspended for what could be responsible for closing hundreds of organizations and causing a major interruption in business in Boston. Officials familiar with the case pointed out that the social media hash tag #SDK began turning up on Twitter and Facebook around the time of the first storm three weeks ago. Yet no one was able to get to the bottom of its meaning until now. If found to be responsible, the Snow Dance Kid may face a suspension lasting as long as early May when springtime begins and he can no longer interrupt school and business in Boston by causing snow storms.
Yes, the above story is fictional.
