The leaves are beginning to change, the nights and mornings are noticeably cooler, and the days are getting shorter which means All Saints Catholic Academy homecoming is on the horizon. Homecoming is an exciting event for students and families. On September 30, 2016 All Saints Catholic Academy will get overwhelmed with burgundy and gold. All grades come together for the pep rally which is a true sight to behold and hear! However, homecoming is more than a dress down day, food vendors, soccer games and fireworks. Homecoming is an annual tradition that unites alumni and current students on common ground. As a teacher, I look forward to homecoming because I get to cheer on the All Saints Catholic Academy Eagles alongside my former and current students.
Homecoming provides us the opportunity to connect with parents, students, and friends all while cheering on the home team. It always amazes me how many former students stop by the All Saints Catholic Academy homecoming to check it out. Some come because they still have siblings at All Saints Catholic Academy, some come to meet up with old friends and some come to size up the class that followed them.
Homecoming offers me the chance to reconnect with former students and check in on their lives. Their lives which I used to be a part of on a daily basis. The conversations with my former students flow easily and for a brief moment it is like they have never left All Saints Catholic Academy. Of course, my former students want reassurances that that they are still my favorite! When it comes time to say good-bye it is then that I realize that the young adult before is off on a new journey. However, after the final good-bye and hug I am reminded what a gift it is to be a teacher at All Saints Catholic Academy and how lucky I am to have been a part of their lives.
Homecoming is more than a sporting event and an evening of fireworks it is the opportunity to walk down memory lane with the students from the past and cheer on my current students.
