Hey St. Michael, check this out. Our students in grades 5-8 are learning how to use the grace of God to protect themselves, without using a sword too. How is this possible?
This week we’ve been discussing how the Circle of Grace, given to us by God, establishes boundaries for appropriate behavior. Students broke into small groups to identify positive and negative examples of media (television, magazines, texting, cyber bullying, blogging, websites, radio, etc.), sharing how media can reinforce or challenge our Circle of Grace. Other discussions included protecting our respect, listening for healthy language, and notifying trusted adults when unhealthy and unsafe situations exist.
I think the Diocese got it right by including Circle of Grace in our school year because it reinforces how God protects us from bullies, predators, and general disrespect by teaching us to take active roles in our grace. Our conscience is our righteousness, created by God’s commandments, developed by Jesus’ beatitudes, and reinforced by our parents love. Grounded in these values, children activate their personal grace by loving and respecting people.
